Hey! I hope y’all had a great weekend 🙂
I made this card this week for my brother, who is NEVER sick, but actually came down with something pretty nasty. However, he ended up a-okay by the time I was done with this, so now I just have a blank card…I’m sure there’s someone else I can give it to though, because literally everyone at school is sick; it’s disgusting, considering how many of my peers don’t know how to cover their mouths when they cough, thus exposing the rest of us to their nasty diseases -.-
Anyways, this piece’s design is actually fairly similar to my last post. I really like pattern-heavy designs with a dominant element highlighted with color. I’ve also started to really enjoy making cards, so do let me know if you’re ever in need of one! I hope to get some nicer pens and thicker paper the next time I go to an art store 🙂
I didn’t notice this while I was designing, but my pals Ryo and Olivia pointed out how science-oriented my patterns are. The squares all resemble cells, some of which are experiencing plasmolysis. Also, some of the pattern was inspired by neurons and Olivia said one of the paisleys resembled a shmoo (I don’t quite agree with that…)
I’ve been working a lot more with pens and markers for these pattern heavy designs just because I like the way the pen bleeds into the paper and the texture it gives. I am still working with creating digital versions of these designs and becoming more comfortable with pattern-heavy designs on my iPad- I tend to place a lot of pressure on my writing utensils when I create pattern heavy works, and I’m more hesitant to do so with my Apple Pencil.
I also really love the repetition in these designs- it really brings the composition together and prevents the design from looking really messy.
That’s all I’ve got for tonight! Catch ya next time,
